North Palm Beach Swim Club                                                                                       April 2004

WELCOME  BACK  WHITE  TEAM

 The Coaches and swimmers want to welcome all of the younger swimmers back to practice.  After a great winter season, we’re looking forward to a great summer.  Your practice will begin Monday, April 5th, at 4:45 to 5:30.  See you then!

GREEN TEAM begins Monday, May 3rd, 3:30-4:00.

 

FLORIDA GOLD COAST RECORDBREAKER 

Keri Brunn swam to a new Florida Gold Coast record in the Jr. Olympics held this March in Plantation.  She swam the 100 yard Breaststroke in a 1:15.05, which broke the record set twelve years ago by Sabah Brinson from North Miami Swim Team and eclipsing Lindsey Martin’s NPB Record of 1:16.32 set in 1989.  Keri also won the 50 yard Breast in  a  34.88 . Congratulations, Keri.  Keep up the hard work!

 

NATIONAL AGE GROUP REPORTABLE TIMES

 North Palm Beach had two swimmers who achieved times fast enough to be submitted for National Ranking in the Top 16 in the nation in their event.  BRITTANY LEAR (10) swam the 50 meter Butterfly in 34.13 and OLIVER BASSE (12) swam the 200 yard Butterfly in 2:12.87.  Both surpassed the set standard for their event.  Congratulations to you both!!!!!

 

SOUTHERN ZONE  ALL-STAR TEAM

 SCOTT BLAKE was selected to the 2003 Florida Gold Coast Zone All-Star Team.  He competed in the 15 – 16 Age Group.  Each age group is made up of only seven swimmers selected from all of the Florida Gold Coast swimmers over the course of the year prior to the Zone Meet.  The FGC team then competes against thirteen other swimming associations in the southeastern quarter of the U.S.   Super Job,  Scott!!!

  

FGC  AGE GROUP  FALL TOP “16”

The following NPB Swimmers finished in the Top “16” Fall Age Group program held by the Florida Gold Coast.  This program ranks all of the swimmers in south Florida against one another over the course of the fall meets held in the FGC.  Their times are ranked and scored by their placement in a number of different events and the top 16 finishers are published.  This list can be seen on the FGC web site. (FGCSwim.org).    8 & Under Girls:  Hannah Vandersluis (6th); 10 & Under Girls: Keri Brunn (5th), Arantxa Araujo (7th), Morgan Lear (13th);  13 & 14 Boys:  Oliver Basse (7th).

FGC  vs.  FLA DUAL MEET

 The NPB Swim Club has seven swimmers on the FGC All-Star team in a dual meet with the Florida Association held at the IRCC pool in Ft. Pierce.  They qualified by placing in the top four in an individual event at the Spring Jr. Olympics.  Taryn Tatum (9-10), Morgan Lear (9-10), Keri Brunn (9-10), Arantxa Araujo (9-10), Kedric Bostic (9-10), Elizabeth Rogers (13-14), Oliver Basse (13-14)  swam their respective events at the meet held at the Aquatic Center in Plantation.  Congratulations to these All-Stars!

  

PALM BEACH COUNTY “TOP 10”

 North Palm Beach had 19 swimmers make the Summer Palm Beach County Top 10 last year. This program begins in May and runs through mid August compiling best times from each meet.  All of the teams in Palm Beach County plus Martin County Aquatics take part in this program which has been going on for over 30 years.  Listed are the NPB swimmers and their age groups: (8 & Under): Hannah Vandersluis-2nd, Elle Arcia-5th, Audrey Moore-6th, Amanda Eurich-7th, Sierra Groth-8th, Conner Murphy-9th, (9 & 10):  Brittany Lear-1st, Keri Brunn-4th, Arantxa Araugo-6th, Morgan Lear-9th, David Arcia-2nd, Erskine Rogers-10th, (11 & 12): Christian Coburn-7th, Juan Matamoros-9th, (13 & 14): Sophie Morgan-3rd, Elizabeth Rogers-5th, Maggie Regan-10th, Oliver Basse-6th, Michael Edwards-10th.   Congratulations to all swimmers listed above.

 

HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AREA TEAMS

 The following NPB Swimmers representing their respective high schools were named to the Palm Beach Post & Sun Sentinel All-Area Teams for their performances during last year’s season.

First Team:  Scott Blake  – 500 Free.

Second Team:  Sophie Morgan – 500 Free, Alex Basse – 200 I.M... 

Honorable Mention:  Sara Cowie, Casey Augeri, Katie Iverson, & Patrick Eucalitto.

REGISTRATION  FEE

 This year’s registration fee for the seasonal swimmer will be $85.  This amount will cover the following:

 A.     Seasonal USA Swimming membership.

B.     NPBCC social membership – this allows you to charge meet fees and/or Swim Shop merchandise. (This does not include use of the pool.  If you are a current annual pool member you may deduct $20 from the Reg. Fee).

C.     NPB Cap & T-Shirt.

D.     NPB Foundation assessment – this is an annual contribution required of all NPB swimmers to help offset rising operating and equipment costs.

 

NORTH PALM BEACH AQUATIC FOUNDATION

 This Foundation was established in 1994 as a 501C-3 tax exempt, tax deductible, non-profit corporation.  It is organized for the purpose to help fund the NPB Swim Club by purchasing training equipment, supplies, helping fund our state, regional and national swimmers, and many other expenses to help keep the North Palm Beach Swim Club a highly successful program for the swimmers in the northern Palm Beach County area.  We would like to again thank Mr. John Thomas of Paine Webber and Mr. Tim Henry of Jones & Foster, Attorneys at Law, for submitting our Foundation for a cash donation from the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin County.  Also, many thanks go to Doug and Carolyn Regan for their generous $1,000 donation to the NPB Aquatic Foundation.
